Revolving Doors: White & Case snaps up finance partner as Boies Schiller loses three in Manhattan

White & Case has bolstered its London debt finance practice with the addition of acquisition and leveraged finance specialist Monica Barton from Winston & Strawn. Barton, who is dual-qualified in England and Wales and France, is the third partner to join the firm’s EMEA banking practice in 2022 following the arrival in March of Paul Yin in London and Neeolferr Roy in Paris.

Meanwhile, CMS has hired PwC’s real estate head, Amit Unadkat. Ranked as a next generation partner by The Legal 500 for commercial property investment, he has experience across a range of real estate work including investment transactions, real estate corporate finance and M&A and joint ventures. Revolving Doors: Eversheds snaps up white-collar specialist as Kirkland adds US funds team

Eversheds Sutherland’s corporate crime and investigations team has been strengthened by the addition of Anupreet Amole from Brown Rudnick, who represents clients from the banking, retail, energy and defence sectors.

The firm’s global co-head of corporate crime and investigations Zia Ullah said: ‘By building on our existing skills in fraud issues and white-collar crime defence and making significant investment in the development of our team, via promotions and lateral hires, we can provide our clients a high degree of subject matter experience. Greenberg Traurig continues to bolster its white-collar crime and investigations team with the addition of Rebecca Meads. Meads joins as the chair of the London white-collar practice from corporate crime boutique Peters & Peters. She arrives alongside senior associates Gavin Costelloe and Alex Swan.

This follows the firm’s hire of Jo Rickards, now co-chair of its global white-collar defence and special investigations practice, as part of a seven-shareholder coup from Mishcon de Reya in October 2021. Revolving doors: Four in three out for Squire as Ropes brings in private equity trio

Ropes & Gray has taken further steps towards its goal of becoming the go-to private equity practice in the city with the addition of partners Dan Oates, Simon Saitowitz and Angela Becker in the London office.

The trio, all of whom have joined from Fried Frank, are the latest in a string of London recruits by the Boston-headquartered firm, which has seen a 25% increase in fee earners in the capital since last year. In another batch of strategic recruitment, Keystone Law’s flexible working model has attracted ten new partners, the firm has announced.

The new hires include five corporate specialists: Michael Holter, who counts aviation and e-commerce companies among his clients, and Rupert Weber, who has expertise in investments into and from Africa, arrived from McDermott Will & Emery; Keith Gilbert from Freeths, and Paul Toolan and Stephen Fuller from Ince. Additions in the real estate space include hospitality sector expert Ed John from Howard Kennedy, Amanda Lloyd from Penningtons Manches Cooper, and Minesh Patel from stevensdrake. Private client partner Simon Mackie joined from Irwin Mitchell and insurance expert Ruth Hite arrived from Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance. Boies Schiller Flexner has announced that arbitration specialist Timothy Foden will become the third partner in its heavily reduced London office, taking the first steps to rebuild after a recent exodus.

Previously at Lalive, Foden has a wealth of experience representing clients in investor-treaty and complex commercial arbitrations in the mining and energy sectors, and regularly represents clients opposite sovereign states. The appetite for competition, tech and disputes partners is the theme of this week’s recruitment round up.

Kirkland & Ellis bolstered its antitrust and competition practice with the hire of Alasdair Balfour from Allen & Overy. Balfour brings 25 years of experience in merger control, foreign investment, antitrust conduct investigations and litigation, and a focus on securing merger control clearances. His arrival goes some way to recoup the departures of two antitrust partners to US competitors this year, following Sarah Jordan’s move to Goodwin in January and Annie Herdman to Ropes & Gray in March. Revolving Doors: White & Case expands transatlantic banking offering as Squire Patton Boggs builds out data protection team

White & Case has announced additions to its banking and finance practice on both sides of the Atlantic. Paul Yin joins the London team from Skadden, where he was European counsel and specialises in acquisition, real estate and general corporate financings, while the Boston office welcomed the arrival of Jessica Ball and Jessica Shearer. The pair move over from Proskauer Rose and will join the US private credit and direct lending practice.

Addleshaw Goddard has announced the launch of three new European offices this week, opening a new Luxemburg base and adding two new German offices.

The Luxemburg office will be led by Fieldfisher’s former head of corporate and banking, Richard Ledain Santiago. Santiago, who joined Fieldfisher in 2018 from Allen & Overy, will focus on funds and funds finance work. Linklaters has lured three lawyers from US firm Vinson & Elkins to its leveraged finance practice in its home market, London. V&E’s former City head of finance and M&A Noel Hughes has joined, alongside fellow partner Giacomo Reali and Christianne Williams, who was counsel at V&E.

Hughes focuses on advising on high-yield bonds and leveraged buyouts across a broad range of industries, both in the European and US markets while Reali, who speaks six languages, advises on high-yield debt transactions, bridge financings and preferred equity investments with a particular focus on the Italian market.
