Latin America: Clydes to open in Mexico via merger as Dentons secures Brazilian alliance

Clyde & Co has kept up the rapid pace of its international expansion by announcing its first office in Mexico, merging with four-partner local law firm Garza Tello & Asociados. Meanwhile, Dentons has signed a strategic alliance in Brazil with local firm Vella Pugliese Buosi Guidoni.

Gateley makes approaches to secure new Scottish tie-up

With the merger between its former Scottish arm and Addleshaw Goddard due to go live on 1 June, Gateley is looking at options for a new Scottish tie-up and has approached a number of firms in the market.

According to one Scottish partner, Anderson Strathern, which has offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow and East Lothian, would be the most likely option for a tie-up.

Going Dutch: Dentons sets out new European integration strategy after Boekel merger

Dentons is set to combine with Dutch firm Boekel, completing its third phase of European expansion, which has seen the global giant launch in Italy and Luxembourg.

The deal gives the firm a new Amsterdam office that expands its European presence to 26 offices in 18 countries. Boekel adds 70 lawyers to the global firm and 16 partners, with a focus on real estate, corporate and litigation.

300 JOBS CUT AHEAD OF CMS MERGER

Approximately 300 support staff roles are to be cut at CMS Cameron McKenna, Olswang and Nabarro ahead of their triple merger next month. The firms ran a redundancy consultation from January to March, with 650 of the 950 support staff offered roles in the combined firm.

NRF’s New York merger – the trade-offs of federalism

Barely into 2017 and it has already been an eventful year for verein-based law firms, with King & Wood Mallesons meeting a painful end in Europe while, in happy contrast, Norton Rose Fulbright (NRF) has just secured its second substantive US merger in the shape of Chadbourne & Parke.

The deal hands NRF 300 lawyers and a major upgrade to its Manhattan practice, which it certainly wanted and needed. Given the federal structure of NRF, the deal is primarily a merger within its US business, marrying the legacy Fulbright & Jaworski to a firm with complementary strengths across energy, projects and finance, nicely combining Fulbright’s Texas heartlands with Chadbourne’s New York base.
