After shutting down its Kiev operations last summer, Chadbourne & Parke has boosted its presence in Russia with the hire of energy partner Andrei Baev from Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) as Moscow managing partner.
Allen & Overy (A&O) has bolstered its project finance offering in its sub-Saharan practice with its first lateral partner hire in South Africa, turning to Linklater-ally firm Webber Wentzel. Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer also turned to Linklaters in building its Hong Kong office with finance and energy partner Thomas Ng.
Matt Rees, an M&A partner at Simmons & Simmons focusing on private equity, has resigned from the firm to join Proskauer Rose later this month.

Last week was another busy week for hires both in private practice and in-house, with Bird & Bird investing in Australian IP, Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) appointing a financial services regulatory partner in London, and King & Spalding recruiting a Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF) partner in Asia. In-house, Stephenson Harwood seconded a rail partner to head the legal team carrying out the UK’s HS2 project.

Mayer Brown has bolstered its European corporate team with the hire of two former Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer lawyers, including one from Davis Polk & Wardwell, to its corporate and securities practice in Paris.
Both LB100 and Global 100 firms made senior appointments last week, bringing in both current and former team heads to bolster their offerings. Eversheds hired TLT’s head of financial regulation while Reed Smith took on DLA Piper’s Singapore head of restructuring and Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher hired Weil, Gotshal & Manges’ former US private funds co-head. Meanwhile, Stevens & Bolton hired Charles Russell Speechley partner Stephen Rockhill as it focused on its construction practice.
