London calling for Latham as it makes up nine partners in the City

Latham & Watkins has promoted 31 lawyers to partner across all five of its departments globally, with 29% of those getting the nod in London.

The promotion round, effective of January next year, sees a notable increase in associates making the cut in London, with just two being made up last year in the City. Globally the firm’s 31 promotions equal last year’s round, which saw New York receive the lion’s share of promotions. London gets lion’s share of White & Case’s largest ever partner promotions round

White & Case has promoted 41 lawyers to partner in its largest ever promotion round, with London seeing more promotions than the whole of the US.

The promotion round, effective from January next year, represents a 32% increase on last year, when 31 were minted. London sees 13 promotions, up from seven last year, and ahead of the 12 in the US. Kirkland continues inexorable rise with record 122-strong promotions round – including 10 in London

In a move befitting of its unstoppable upward trajectory, Kirkland & Ellis  has scored a new record in partner promotions, making up a striking 122 partners, of which 10 are in London.

The overall tally across the Chicago-bred firms 14 international offices is an increase on last year’s mammoth round, which saw 97 new partners created, with 13 minted in the City. Baker McKenzie has promoted six in the City as part of a scaled down global promotion round which saw 68 lawyers minted, 15% fewer than last year’s 80.

Partner promotions: women make up nearly half of reduced Simmons promotion round

Simmons & Simmons has promoted four women to partner as part of a reduced round of just nine partner promotions globally, with London promotions also dropping this year.

The nine promotions announced today (30 April) is a dip from last year’s 12, but being 45% female exceeds the firm’s commitment to have women comprise 30% of all managing associate and partner promotions each year. The promotions span a variety of locations and practise areas, although with only four being made up in London, compared to seven last year. Partner promotions: Clifford Chance promotes 26 globally in a stronger round for women

 Clifford Chance (CC) has made up 10 women in a promotion round that has ushered in 26 partners globally, seven of which are in London.

Effective 1 May, the round represents a much stronger showing for women, with 10 being promoted compared to just four last year. Overall the promotion round has increased by two from 24 in 2017. Allen & Overy makes up just two women partners in scaled back global promotion round

Allen & Overy (A&O) has made up only two female lawyers to partner as part of a 20-strong round unveiled in the same month the firm vowed a renewed drive towards gender diversity.

The latest promotions fall below the scaled-up 2017 partner promotion round of 24 in which 10 were made up in London. Only four lawyers in London have been promoted to partner this year, as corporate and banking saw the lion’s share of the promotions. Addleshaw Goddard has nearly doubled its promotions round from last year as nine partners are made up across the UK and Dubai.

The top 30 UK law firm’s partner promotions include three in London and Manchester, one in Leeds and two in Dubai, led by the corporate practice’s three promotions. The other new partners include one in each of employment, business support and restructuring, litigation, health and safety, construction, and environment. Flat partner promotions round at Eversheds Sutherland a year after merger

Eversheds Sutherland’s international business has made 20 partner promotions globally, the same as last year, with more than half outside the UK.

In the UK the firm made up nine partners across Cardiff, Manchester, Leeds, Nottingham and London, where four were promoted. The 11 promoted outside the UK are in Dubai, Dublin, Hong Kong, Johannesburg, Milan, Munich, Riyadh, Rotterdam and Warsaw.
