First-time instruction for Kirkland in €2.4bn purchase
Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has advised on two of the largest European real estate transactions of 2016 as The Blackstone Group purchased a property portfolio from German real estate group IVG Immobilien for €3.3bn while Singaporean sovereign wealth fund GIC picked up warehouse company P3 Logistic Parks from TPG Real Estate for €2.4bn.
Dentons has emerged as a potential suitor to save the beleaguered European arm of King & Wood Mallesons (KWM), Legal Business can reveal, with management at both firms understood to be in merger discussions.

King & Wood Mallesons (KWM) has elected Frankfurt partner Michael Cziesla as EUME senior partner, defeating Dubai-based disputes partner Tim Taylor QC in the race between two legacy SJ Berwin veterans. The election was triggered after Stephen Kon’s early resignation last month.
Shearman & Sterling confirmed today (11 October) that Brussels antitrust partner Trevor Soames has resigned from the firm.

Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF) has landed M&A partner Christoph Nawroth from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in Dusseldorf.
Ashurst closed the doors to two of its European offices in June, confirming it will dissolve its Swedish offering with the entire team of 30 staff in its Stockholm office moving to Hamilton.
The firm will also close its base in Rome with its remaining lawyers relocating to Milan following a review of its Italian offering after a string of exits. The fate of the office was sealed following the resignation of the Rome office’s sole partner Aian Abbas.
