Dechert and PwC step into Singapore as global players sustain push into key Asian hub
This summer saw continued interest by advisers in the Asian legal market, as top-50 US firm Dechert finally received the green light to open an office in Singapore eight months after applying for a Foreign Legal Practice licence. Meanwhile, Big Four accountancy giant PwC made a move to enhance its legal offering in the Asia-Pacific region, having entered into a tie-up in Singapore with local firm Camford Law.
Simmons & Simmons has created a specialist trade mark practice in China, hiring George Chan as a partner from Asia Pacific IP agency Rouse to head the new agency.

After announcing a return to form financially, with both revenue and profits up for 2013/14, Simmons & Simmons managing partner Jeremy Hoyland says that Asia, at times unprofitable ground for international firms in recent years, is critical to his firm’s strategic development.
Bird & Bird has signed strategic co-operation agreements with two Indonesian law firms, intellectual property specialists K&K Advocates and business law firm Nurjadin Sumono Mulyadi & Partners (NSMP).
The agreements, which were signed on 24 June in Jakarta, come as the top-20 firm, which already has a presence in Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong and Singapore, experiences a period of rapid growth in the Asia-Pacific region stemming back 18 months.
