Richard Devereux
Labour law counsel
Intel
Intel has 300 lawyers worldwide and 41 in Europe. In the labour law division that Richard Devereux runs, there are six staff.
He is looking for business-orientated, practical advice and above all doesn’t want a ‘big legal memorandum; we’re looking for solutions’, he says.
Intel operates a quarterly budget system and Devereux is expected to stick to within 10% of the allocated budget. He says for the type of work he does, hourly billing is the best way of working with law firms, and he constantly tracks hourly rates across regions. ‘Outside counsel have an understanding of what we want and we know what we want, so it would be obvious from the work what level of lawyers should be involved,’ he says.
