Snap Inc has named Michael O’Sullivan as its new general counsel (GC), after former legal head Chris Handman stepped down from the role in July leaving an interim GC in place.
O’Sullivan joins the California-based Snap Inc after spending over 20 years at US firm Munger, Tolles & Olson. He joined the firm in 1996, and focused his practice on financial law, M&A law and securities law.
In a statement, the California-based parent company of social media camera application Snapchat said: ‘We are thrilled to welcome Mike to the Snap Inc. family.’
Legal Business reported in July that Snap Inc’s previous GC, Chris Handman, had stepped down from the position after three years in July citing a desire to spend more time with his family. Despite standing down from the role, Snap Inc confirmed that Handman would still work at the company as an adviser.
In the period between Handman stepping down and O’Sullivan’s arrival, Snap Inc’s deputy GC and compliance officer Dominic Perella served as the company’s GC.
Snap Inc underwent an initial public offering (IPO) on the New York Stock Exchange in March. US firm Cooley’s corporate and securities partner Eric Jensen advised Snap Inc on the float, which valued the company at $28bn.
