Eversheds has hired a trio of lawyers from Squire Patton Boggs, while DLA Piper, Mayer Brown and Dentons all added to their benches around the globe.
Charmian Johnson joins Eversheds’ Manchester office from Squire alongside two of the firm’s associates, Helen May and Amanda Small. The Legal 500 notes Squires’ former pensions team head adopts ‘a pragmatic approach’ and is ‘friendly and approachable, and very clear in the advice she provides’.
Head of pensions at Eversheds in Manchester Ele Lovering said she’s confident Johnson, May and Small will fit seamlessly into the team. ‘We are a strong, established team of 13 in Manchester currently and we are looking to grow. These additions are an important part of our national growth strategy.’
Meanwhile, DLA Piper has announced three hires in a bid to enhance its finance practice. Timothy Moran, Vanessa Richelle Wilson and Philip Corsello join the firm as finance partners from Sidley Austin. Moran, who was Sidley’s co-head of project finance, will be based in DLA Piper’s Washington DC and London offices, while Wilson will be based in Washington DC and Corsello in New York. Each lawyer focuses on energy M&A, infrastructure development and finance, and project development and financing matters around the world.
The firm’s co-chair for the Americas for Roger Meltzer said: ‘The addition of this premier group reinforces the firm’s larger strategy to enhance its experience, depth and global reputation in infrastructure, energy and finance. It will also enable us to further build out a robust infrastructure and projects practice, which will benefit our entire global platform.’
Mayer Brown has increased its consumer financial services team with a 10 partner hire to its financial services regulatory and enforcement practice in Washington DC. The new partners – who were all previously at K&L Gates, will be joined by 16 lawyers also moving to Mayer Brown.
The team includes partners David Beam, Krista Cooley, Costas Avrakotos, Holly Spencer Bunting, Eric Edwardson, Kristie Kully, Ori Lev, Stephanie Robinson and David Tallman. Lauren Pryor who was an associate at K&L Gates also joins as a partner.
Co-leader of Mayer Brown’s financial services regulatory and enforcement practice Tom Delaney said: ‘This new group enhances our client-service capabilities, further adding to the wide range of regulatory counselling, enforcement defense and transactional advice we offer to leading financial services companies and participants in the consumer credit and real estate finance industries.’
In further international hires, Dentons has announced Matthew Showler will join the firm’s Dubai office as a partner in its disputes resolution practice. Joining from King & Wood Mallesons, Showler is a specialist in international arbitration and litigation, acting for a wide variety of financial institutions, multi-national corporations, governmental institutions, NGOs, heads of state, high net worth individuals and FTSE 100 companies.
Dentons Middle East managing partner Michael Kerr said Showler is one of a number of high calibre candidates to have recently joined Dentons. He added: ‘Matthew is well recognised in the market as an outstanding practitioner. He has a breadth of experience in all forms of dispute resolution and his arrival further strengthens our regional dispute resolution offering.’
